Exploring Utila
There’s so much more to Utila than simply great diving. When you aren’t busy exploring the island’s underwater treasures, you’ll find plenty to see and do on land. With its unique blend of British, American and Spanish cultures, it offers a Caribbean experience like no other.
Ecomarine Diving is situated in the heart of the friendly Sandy Bay community and is only a five-minute walk from Chepas Beach, the perfect spot to relax in the sun or enjoy a spectacular sunset.
No visit to Utila is complete without a trip to the Cays. Take a stroll around nearby Pigeon Cay to explore a traditional island community. From there is it a short hop over to the beautiful uninhabited Water Cay. Boat trips with an experienced local boat captain can be arranged from our dock.
Another Utila must-see is the Iguana Research Station. Carrying out vital conservation and research into Utila’s own Swamper Iguana which is found only here on the island, the centre welcomes visitors on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 2-5pm.
Why not rent a bicycle, golf cart or quad bike to explore the island further. A walk or ride up Pumpkin Hill will reward you with magnificent views over the entire island and out to Roatan and the mountains of the mainland.
Other activities, which can be arranged by our helpful team, include kayaking, deep-sea fishing trips snorkeling, water-skiing and horse-back trips around the island.
